England V West Indies Women’s IT20 Match 1 Review

England win the first match of the 5 match t20 series against the Windies.

This was the return of  Woman’s International cricket since the Covid 19 took hold and is the first game back since the famous day at the MCG World Cup Final.

The match was played at Derby and was played behind close doors. England had an experienced lineup while Windies were looking to perform well in their first comeback game. Both teams look rusty but it was great to see cricket back for the women’s game.

England won the toss and elected to bat on an hard and white deck. England got off to an excellent start, making an impressive score of 163 for 8 wickets. Opener Tamsin Beaumont top scoring with 62 off 49 balls, it included 9 fours and 1 six. The next top scorer for England was captain Heather Knight with a quick fire 25 off 17 balls.

The Windies bowling attack did stem flow of runs with Shakera Selman taking an impressive 3 for 26 with Hayley Matthews and captain Stefanie Taylor both taking 2 wickets.

But it was England’s day as the Windies couldn’t maintain the required run rate and loss wickets in clusters with only one batsman for the Windies making more than 10 runs with Deandra Dottin making a stoic 69 but had no help around her.

As England bowling attack was  far too good for the Windies with Natalie Sciver taking 2 for 16 from  her four overs and Sophie Ecclestone 2 for 19.

England was also helped by their fielding effort with Heather Knight who took the runout of LeeAnn Kirby.

England were just too strong winning by 47 runs and will be wanting to bring their A game to their next match while for the Windies a lot of learning can done especially in the batting department.

The next match will  be Wednesday night UK  time, so tune in and hopefully the Windies will put together a strong performance to level the series.
